Warrior Defense 101
Warrior Defense 101
1. Always go for the interception (not the knock-down)!
2. Know the force before play starts. Captains will call the force before each point.
3. Call “Up!” when the disc is thrown and "Turn!" when we get the turnover. (Sideline -- you also are part of our defense here.)
4. There is no "magic defense" that shuts down every offense in every situation. We must be flexible and resilient. Don't lose your head and abandon our plan just because the other team has scored a few points.
5. Switching up defenses disrupts the offense's rhythm. If they have to abandon their plan because we have thrown an unexpected defense at them, we have the advantage.
6. Communicate! Call for help. Tell the marker where you are (say "No break" or "Strike" and the marker can shift in that direction for a moment).
7. Man-to-man, never turn your back on the person you're covering. Usually, you will want to position yourself so your butt is facing the sidelines so you can watch your man but also quickly glance at the thrower.
8. No poaching! Only the captains are allowed to poach. You stay on your man.
9. Watch your person's hips (not their feet.) Feet can fake but hips don't lie. They will tell you where the person is going.
10. The person going long is the most dangerous person on the field. We must always have a man behind him. If you are last back in the stack, play behind your man.

The Huddle
http://www.the-huddle.org/
A blog written by some of the best players that there are in the game of Ultimate.
Features Dan Heijman and Ben Feldman from Wisconsin, Ben Wiggins from Sockeye, and more authors that know the game inside and out.
Read these, they will definitely help you with any problems you may or may not have. This especially goes for Varsity, since the advice given is mostly for an advanced level of play.
